The Garden

The 1860s heritage listed property Pinehurst is set on 3.5 acres of land. Surrounding the house is a pretty plumbago hedge. The broader garden is the legacy of much earlier plantings, with many mature trees such as jacaranda, camphor laurel and two very large Bunya Pines. The large main house garden follows a meandering path through different garden areas. Features include a sunken lawn area, the fern garden, numerous cottage style garden areas, a large succulent garden, featured rhipsalis and tillandsia.   With a large variety of plants the garden is a plant lovers favourite.

In addition to the main garden there is a large orchard of 50 trees including espaliered pears.  The southern corner of the property is home to diverse native plantings including a Wollemi pine and threatened eucalypts that are endemic to the area. A group of 40 young red cedar tress is developing as an established planting.

The House

Pinehurst was originally built as a single storey timber residence in the 1860s. Significant alterations occurred in 1881 and 1890 on the footprint of the earlier home. Today the six bedroomed two storied English bond brick house is painted Cecil Bruner pink and boasts Australian cedar joinery, gleaming apple wood floors, high ornate plaster ceilings, and eight fireplaces. Upstairs and downstairs external cedar shutters open onto huge return veranda’s which are fringed with very attractive elaborate iron lacework.
